WHAT IF MY CIGAR GETS TOO DRY?

When a cigar becomes too dry, it can have a negative impact on its quality and taste. Dryness can cause the wrapper to crack or split, affecting the draw and overall burn of the cigar. Additionally, dry cigars tend to burn too quickly and may produce an undesirable harshness or bitterness in the flavor. To avoid these issues, storing cigars at a proper humidity level of around 65-70% is recommended.

HOW CAN I DETERMINE A CIGAR’S DRYNESS?

Determining the dryness of a cigar can be done through a few methods. One way is gently squeezing it to feel for cracks or brittle spots. Another technique is to listen for crackling sounds when you handle the cigar. A dry cigar may also have a faded or ashy appearance with an unpleasant taste and aroma when smoked. It’s best to keep cigars in appropriate humid conditions to prevent them from drying out too much.

HOW CAN I DE-HUMIDIFY A CIGAR?

If you have a dry cigar, there are several effective ways to re-humidify it. One option is to use a humidor and gradually increase its humidity until the cigar is restored to optimal moisture. You can also use a damp sponge or moist paper towel in an airtight container and leave your cigars in it overnight or overnight. Another option is using Boveda packs, which provide precise humidity control, making it easy to restore your cigars to their original condition.

IS USING PLASTIC BAGS OKAY?

Using a plastic bag with a damp sponge to re-humidify a dry cigar is not recommended. This method can harm the cigar and negatively affect its flavor. It is best to use specialized humidification devices, such as humidor or Boveda packs, to restore the moisture content of your cigars properly.
